Wright in conjunction with Dr. Stephen Murphy of Boston, MA, has designed an innovative surgical technique for hip replacement called the SUPERCAP® Tissue-Preserving Technique. This tissue-preserving surgical technique is unique and is performed only by surgeons who use Wright's patented hip implants and instruments.
Typical hip replacement surgery requires 6 weeks to 3 months for patients to fully recover from what has been, historically, a more traumatic surgical procedure.
The advances in implant technology, when combined with Wright's SUPERCAP® Technique (which is designed to allow the surgeon to never have to surgically dislocate the hip during the procedure) enable most patients to shorten their recovery from months -- down to simply a matter of weeks.
This fast recovery from hip replacement surgery is truly ground-breaking and is changing the way doctors, and patients, think of hip replacement. Many have been surprised to learn that such a traditionally, invasive surgery has now been refined to a truly minimally-invasive procedure.
Why Is Never Surgically Dislocating The Hip So Important?
You may have thought that tissue-preserving hip surgery only pertains to the smaller length of incision that a surgeon is able to operate within. That is only partly true. Whereas, Wright's SUPERCAP® Technique does offer a single, smaller incision (2.5-3.5 inches as compared to 8-10 inches required for traditional hip replacement); the SUPERCAP® Technique is truly innovative because it is a soft tissue-sparing approach.
The implantation of the total hip components is done under direct vision through a single incision. And, most interesting is that Wright's SUPERCAP® Technique and Instrumentation allow surgeons to perform surgery in such a way as to not have to surgically dislocate the hip during the replacement procedure at all.
