Ron, an active Florida resident, suffered from sporadic lower back pain for almost three years before deciding to seek treatment. Ron never imagined that anything could be seriously wrong; he just thought he was experiencing standard aging pains. However, while traveling in Italy with his wife, he began experiencing constant back pain from the endless walking and sightseeing. Ron and his wife love to travel and the idea of his back pain hindering their ability to enjoy their vacations was just the catalyst he needed to see a doctor. When he returned from his vacation, he immediately went to see Dr. George Markovich in hopes of relieving his pain.
After examining Ron and reviewing his X-rays, Dr. Markovich recommended a total hip replacement. Although the pain was in Ron's back, a damaged left hip was causing the discomfort. Dr. Markovich recommended using the CONSERVE® Total Hip with BFH® Technology using the PATH® tissue-sparing surgical technique.
Ron decided to move forward with surgery because he wanted to enjoy his golden years without limitations. Ron had his left hip replaced in August 2005, and he hasn't stopped moving since. “The operation itself was very simple, and right after, I was even able to walk down the hall,” Ron explained. The recovery time was short, and he only stayed in the hospital for two days, mostly for access to the physical therapy team. “Within a couple of days, I was able to do anything. I didn't even need to take any pain medicine after the procedure,” Ron added.
Ron is now back to living his normal, active and busy life. he and his wife just got back from a trip to Machu Picchu, Peru, which involved a great amount of walking, sometimes even up tall ruins. Ron continues, “I start early and go late. I like to play tennis, golf and go running. Having the CONSERVE® Total Hip replacement was easily the best thing I have ever done for myself.”
Wright's CONSERVE® Total Hip is designed to mimic the natural anatomy and motion of the hip. It features a larger femoral ball and socket design that more closely matches the sizing of a natural femoral head, resulting in greater range of motion, which can reduce the incidence of dislocation. In addition, the implant's metal-on-metal bearing surface is designed to offer the benefits of added durability and reduced wear compared to alternative treatment options. Furthermore, the larger implant enables a greater range of motion without impingement of the hip, allowing most patients to enjoy a wide range of activities after their surgery. This can make a big difference to those trying to return to a more normal, active lifestyle. The PATH® surgical technique is a procedure that preserves the soft tissue and the function and stability in the hip joint.
These results are specific to this individual only. Individual results and activity levels after surgery vary and depend on many factors including age, weight and prior activity level.
There are risks and recovery times associated with surgery and there are certain individuals who should not undergo surgery.
