Could you please discuss your previous technique and why you converted to the PATH® Technique for hip replacement surgery?
I initially used the anterior total hip (technique) for over 20 years in my practice and was very pleased with the results, but what I was unhappy with was the limp that my patients would experience with the anterior approach. I was viewing some of the video from Dr. Penenberg's (Wright Medical's PATH® Technique creator) work and was noticing how quickly they recovered and how well they walked. When I saw that I felt that I had to have that for my patients.
How have you seen your results change since adopting the PATH® Technique into your practice?
My patients have quickly returned to a more normal gait. When I say quickly, there is a great majority that can walk with a relatively normal gait by two weeks. That almost never occurred with the anterior approach. I think that our pain control has been much better and cosmetically we have been much more please with the PATH® Technique approach.
Please share any final thoughts that you may have in regards to the PATH® Technique?
From my experience it was a very hard and painful decision going away from a technique that I had used for over 20 years and had been relatively happy with. There was a lot of angst in making that decision but I couldn't be happier about the results I have been getting with the PATH® Technique.
